Tapa apiladora masu / Masu Stacking Lid

LEARN HERE HOW TO FOLD IT!

by  Gerardo

Very recently I finished the photo-diagrams for my bento boxes. That left me with four new boxes that I ended up stacking one on top of the other on my desk. When I finished stacking them I got the idea... what if I created a special lid for stacking origami boxes? I liked even more the idea when I remembered how I envied Paolo Bascetta for having created such an excellent compliment for the masu box, his Box Divider =P

So I finally created this stacking lid for masu boxes which happens to also be a variation of the masu box design. Now I don't have to envy Paolo; I finally created a compliment for the masu box that I like very much. I turned the masu box into a modular origami model!

I wish to thank Roxanne Smith for her big help testing and revising the photo-diagrams; look at her lids and stacked boxes in the gallery. I folded the lids with pieces of paper that were a gift from my friend Graciela : )

If you fold it, I only ask you to please send me pictures to gerardo(a)neorigami.com

We've just been making some of Tomoko Fuse's boxes. It is a craft mums' & baby group in York, UK - not much of a serious folding. Seeing your post on the Origami list I thought what an excellent idea! Especially if we could make those from some harder paper, so they can be used in play. I'll try your Bento box (with divisions)this afternoon. Great work! Li

    Hello,
would you be so kind to send me some written or pictured Tutorial about this great lid? I am a teacher an wanna make some boxes for my kindergarden-group to store our stuff like cars and papers and toys in there. So stackable is the best feature ever seen in origami world and absolutely necessary for our spare rooms.

    Thanks in advance, Yours Kiki

    Hi Gerardo,

just tried the stacking lid, but got lost at the bending of corners, Page 13/14, top picture. Have to try again with sturdier paper, which might work better then the newspaper stuff I just used.
But Thanks anyway for this great tut. I may post a pic, when I finally managed it! Cheers, Kiki

Thanks for trying out my diagrams Kiki.

I'm sure you'll be able to do that step as well. You already passed the more complicated ones =P

In that step you just have to press the right tip against the right wall and against the "floor" as well. After that just do the same with the left one.

If you keep on having difficulties with the step you can send me a photo of what you've done so far so I can help you a little more : )

I always had my doubts about the clarity of this photo-diagrams, specially the part about how to lift the center square. That's why I have changed one word and two photos.

I hope now more people will get encouraged to try them out : )

Si voy a origamiyube me dice que "This Account Has Been Suspended", osea que tampoco lo encuentro.
