UPDATE (June 2012): The challenge was a success, 57 models by 31 participants. The participants chose the condiment shakers as their winner and the judges chose the sleeve for CD/DVD and liner notes as theirs. Now I wish to propose the creation of a book with the models to the participants. That's why I now ask you to look at the models bellow in the Gallery and answer the poll-type question ; )

Show your level of creativity! This time it’s not about how realistic or attractive your model is, but about coming up with a great idea and turning it into paper.

With no further ado, I present to you the…

Inter-forum Useful Model Challenge

The judging and voting criteria for this challenge is the level of usefulness of the model, but also, it’s ASTONISHMENT FACTOR. So “think outside the box”, there’s more to useful origami than a box or an envelope. So you think you can invent a totally different and innovative useful model?

You’ll compete against challengers from the whole world! Six forums will participate in this integrative event. You’ll also have the chance to win a book with a personal dedication from its author or 50 € (Euros) for the ORIGAMI SHOP. Convince the judges, three origamists from different countries that have demonstrated their skill for useful models, and the voters that your model deserves to win.

Angel Ecija managed to turn a simple paper into a real working whistle...

What astonishing and useful model are you capable of creating?

This is brought to you by the sponsors of this challenge: the Origami Shop ( http://www.origami-shop.com ) and Neorigami ( http://neorigami.com )

Today the first half time of the challenge ends. It has been a really interesting halftime. The Origami Forum took the lead by presenting the first competing model: “Mobil Phone Stand” by snowblue. Pajarita wasn’t too happy about it, so they replied by presenting a “Water Holding Cup” and a “Coin Purse” created by the same five year old artist; besides her, ALQUIMISTA presented three other models: “Cell Phone Sleeve”, “Page Marker”, and a “Cap”. After that, PliagedePapier.com showed their power with all this models: “Chair” by Scournec, “Abacus” by Kaze, “Pointed Square” and “Double Base” by Vincent-origami, “Vessel and Pencil Holder” by Ray95, also the “Fountain Pen” by Malifold, and finally... the “Garden Labels” by Argi. Very Impressive! The Origami Forum made one final move before the end of the halftime: Sunburst presented a “Voodoo Doll” as a useful model!

Oriart, LoveOrigami, and the Vietnamese Origami Group, have been very silent during the first half. They still have 15 more days to show what they can do. If you’re a member of any of these three forums I invite you to represent your forum before it’s too late.

As a halftime show I (Gerardo) shared images and a video of my “Fireplace Bellows” which really works! I Hope you like it.

We have reached the final week of submitted models. Since last time firstfold from The Origami Forum, presented his "Special Lens Frame". After that, Nguyen Tu Tuan from the Vietnam Origami Group came up with a "Dustpan". Then came viki from Pajarita with his "Pajarita Key Chain" and ALQUIMISTA returned with a "Wallet" with many many diferent pockets. Garibiilian, from The Origami Forum, came up with a "Garbage Can" with a mechanical lid. Another one that also returned was Ray95 from Pliage de Papier with a "Bracelet", as well as Nguyen Tu Tuan, from Vietnam Origami Group, with a "Bowl, Chopsticks, and a Spoon". Finally, the Origami Forum answered back with "The Nose - An Eyeglass Stand" by jeko.

Being so, during the last three weeks 16 creators have presented 24 challenging models, distributed in the following way:

Pliage de Papier: 6 creators, 8 models
    Pajarita: 4 creators, 8 models
The Origami Forum: 5 creators, 6 models
Vietnam Origami Group: 1 creator, 2 models
    Oriart: 0 creators & models
    LoveOrigami: 0 creators & models

What model will be chosen by the judges? Which one by the participants? With one final week of models we might get a couple of surprises.

This challenge is sponsored by the Origami Shop ( http://origami-shop.com ) and Neorigami ( http://neorigami.com ):

dargerlirli's "Condiment Shakers" was the winning model chosen by the fellow participants! Recently dargelirli received his prize from the Origami Shop... congratulations! The photos in the gallery are of his model and his prize: 50 Hours of Origami by the Vietnam Origami Group and printed by the Origami Shop.

thebigbluevan's "Sleeve for CD/DVD & Liner Notes" was the winning model chosen by the three judges. But I've been unable to reach him to get his info and ask Didier Boursin to send him his prize. I believe the O-list can help me with that; let's hope so.

Now this is important! I wanna try to make a book of some of the models from the challenge. For that I will have to ask for the help of its participants, but first I need to know which models should be in the book. That's were you come in : )

Please tell me which models do you consider that should be in the book. Like I said it's important : )

También me molesta a mí bastante Juan. Por ahora me toca así manualmente, cuando cuente con más tiempo, trataré de buscar una mejor solución.
